Google's Lorenzo Colitti proposed the W6D idea back in November 2010 during RIPE 61 meeting. Here are his final slides recommendations
How can you help?
- Content providers
Deploy IPv6 and participate
Ask your CDN vendor to let you participate
- ISPs
Provide separate DNS servers for IPv6 users
Train user support
Replace broken user CPEs?
Deploy IPv6, including IPv6-capable CPEs
- OS vendors
Fix bugs
Depref 6to4
Probe for working IPv6, disable if it's not working
Need to patch old systems as well!
- Home router vendors
Provide robust IPv6 support
Turn off 6to4!
From: http://ripe61.ripe.net/presentations/223-World_IPv6_day.pdf
Its worth noting that the gogoClient makes a good alternative to CPEs/home routers not ready with a public IPv6 connectivity or running 6to4.
Comment by Ethern Lin on May 11, 2011 at 10:06pm We have two events in Switzerland on June 8 and hope to get things going and moving a little bit. And obviously a dual-stacked website:
Have fun!

Comment by Luc Roy on May 11, 2011 at 1:51pm Laurentian University (Sudbury, Ontario, Canada) is ready for IPv6 day. We have been coordinating with ARIN. Our website is fully dual stacked.
Looking forward to June!
Comment by Thomas Maufer on May 11, 2011 at 12:43pm To prep for World IPv6 Day, we got our web site to be reachable over IPv6. Check out www.mudynamics.com! If you are on IPv6, this page will not say you're reaching us over IPv4. :-)
We provide a broad suite of test tools that are focused on application re-creation, IPv6 and security testing.
Comment by sal7mansour on May 11, 2011 at 8:05am Hello ,
am also preparing for IPV6 world day , I am working on big event to provide Palestinian universities connected through our backbone with a full /48 IPv6 block of addresses , also i preparing some documents on how to start ipv6 deployment inside companies, universities and small ISPs ...
RIPE NCC (the European regional registry) has just published its action plan and measurements it intends to take on W6D. One of them is an interesting Connectivity Chart, see

DNS testing of both IPv6 and Dual-Stack, as well as general connectivity, is done well at
A few good resources on World IPv6 Day preparations and testing, add more as they come up.
