Hi George,

There had been some calculations done on IPv6 addresses, one of them claimed that each person in the world can have 4000 IPv6 addresses and there will still be a lot more available. In contrast, there are 4 billion IPv4 addresses and less than 10% available currently. Do not see IPv6 addresses running out in the near future !!

Cheers,

Julian

Hi George,

We had started some time back, hence the head start.
If you need some assistance for the Philippines, you can contact Luis Gopez, CEO of Infoweapons Inc at lgopez@infoweapons.com.

I am currently not aware of any restrictions on IPv6 addresses by any of the 5 RIR ie including APNIC.
There is a lot of addresses available for IPv6. Do you have a policy in place in the Philippines for IPv6 addresses ? For example in Korea, all IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are handled by KRNIC (LIR). In Malaysia it is open and all ISP's contact APNIC directly to get IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.

Cheers,

Julian

I have another query on the IPV6 addresses? Does APNIC consider that countries should have certain allocations, even if they have not requested for allocation of IPv6 Addresses? What's your thoughts on the matter?

Thank again,

George

Hi George,

In accordance with the development of IPv6 internationally over the last decade, the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture had initiated the establishment of National IPv6 Council in 2004 to provide leadership and the strategic planning for IPv6 implementation in Malaysia.

The National IPv6 Council of Malaysia has stated in their first meeting on the 28th December 2004, that all ISPs in Malaysia must be IPv6 ready by the end of 2005, followed by the Government by 2008 and Malaysia by 2010.

The above gives a brief background of when IPv6 started in Malaysia, activities started to pick up again last year and listed below are some of the updates;

1. 9 ISP's have todate secured the IPv6 ISP Logo Certification by IPv6 Forum, see http://www.ipv6forum.my/profiles/blogs/9-isps-secured-ipv6-enabled

2. Dual Stack (DS) domains are monitored by MYNIC at http://www.domainregistry.my/statistics.php

3. We are targeting at least 10% of the registered domains in Malaysia to be DS by the end of this year

4. We are also planning to get all public DNS servers in the country to be DS

5. NAV6 (www.nav6.org) has been instrumental in training 500+ participants nationwide on CNE6 Level 1 and CNE6 Level 2

6. IPv6 WG was created under MTFSB (http://www.mtsfb.org.my) which is under the purview of MCMC (http://www.skmm.gov.my/).

7. IPv6 MY Forum Portal was created ie. www.ipv6forum.my to be one stop portal in Malaysia to share IPv6 related activities and discussions between vendors, government, enterprises, R&D groups and etc.

IPv6 Transition Guideline for Malaysian Government Agencies is available for download at http://nav6.org/control.php, this will give you more insight into the Malaysian strategy.

Feel free to contact me should you have any questions and/or if you need any additional information.

Cheers,

Julian
