Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Hang on - it's on;y a "possibility" and I have not been able to confirm it. Basically I have no idea why the first VM and the (still broken) Vista box will not autoconfigure. I would be very grateful if people who actually use Vista…"

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"OK, I reinstalled Vista in a VM from scratch and it worked. I have no idea what mysterious setting was accidentally tweaked or not tweaked in the first install, but it definitely works in the new VM. One possibility is that it is related to the…"

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Further info: I finally installed wireshark on the Vista VM and checked - the router advertisements are arriving on the ethernet interface. Vista is ignoring them, for some reason. Totally mystifying."

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"OK, I have now also tested with AdvDefaultLifetime set to 1800; no change :-("

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Huh. radvd doesn't like AdvdefaultLifetime either... hm, maybe something else going on."

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Oops, wrong lifetime. But same question - and the same maths. The default for AdvDefaultLifetime is 3 times the maximum router advertisement interval, and I am not setting it explicitly. I did set the maximum router advertisement interval to 60…"

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Why can't the route lifetime be 180 seconds? The radvd man page says it defaults to 3 times the maximum router advertisement interval, and I am not setting it explicitly. I did set the maximum router advertisementinterval to 60 seconds, hence…"

Jeremy Duncan replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Ok first thing I see is the router lifetime needs to be 1800 not 180.. So set this on the interface: AdvDefaultLifetime 1800;"

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Here ya go. There are a few packets surrounding it that you can ignore. Note that this is with AdvRouterAddr *on*, but it also doesn't work with it off."

Jeremy Duncan replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"anyway you can post the .pcap file of the RA? There might be something off in there I'd like to see..."

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Using the KB link Carl sent, I created a DisabledComponents entry in the appropriate place in the registry and set it to zero. That should have made no difference, as by default all components are enabled; all I did was make it explicitly so. So as…"

Karl Auer replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"Tried setting AdvRouterAddr to on instead of the default off - sadly no change."

Jeremy Duncan replied to Karl Auer's discussion 'Vista and autoconfig' in the group Experts in v6
"yeah, do a regedit and add a 32-bit DWORD called DisabledComponents under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\" then add a value for the following options (from the MS KB site): 1. Type 0 to enable all…"
