Mike Mestnik replied to Peter C. Tonnesen's discussion 'Basic IPV6 question icmp provider firewall issue' in the group v6 in America
"As Jason Lewis pointed out, you can forward IP Protocol 41, for reference TCP is Protocol 6 and UDP is Protocol 17. I did this on my M1000 over the telnet interface using iptables commands, expect(tcl) is your friend. However this was a pain and…"

"I'd like to site this RFC http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1925 (6) It is easier to move a problem around (for example, by moving the problem to a different part of the overall network architecture) than it is to solve it. (6a)…"

"I know this is complete balderdash and it actually causes more problems than it solves.  The internet is already a packet switched network, this would graduate it into an packet switched…"

"@Patrick: I've talked with several ppl and they were under the impression that "Dynamic IPv6" addresses were ESSENTIAL to the point of being MANDATORY.  This is because address allocation will need to be continually updated…"

Mike Mestnik commented on Ahmed Abu-Abed's group 'World IPv6 Day'
"Found several sites that I can't reach.  Later is a trace-path to one of them.  From the TP you can see that I'm connected to HE.net's Chicago broker, using 6in4 tunnel from St. Paul, MN. cheako@arcadia:~$…"

Mike Mestnik replied to Christopher Mettin's discussion 'DNS lookups over IPv6'
"Have you tried installing a slave DNS server, like bind or something like dnsmasq, to listen on the V6 address? I'd investigate using treewalker's DNS server, it's bind packaged up nicely for Windows."

"Carl, Sure that counts, still I wonder how many trackers have support for IPv6? What I'd like to see is Gnutella and/or eDonkey. Tor's FAQ lists V6 support for there trackers as a possibility and first step for them. Skype is another…"

Mike Mestnik commented on gogo6's group 'v6 in America'
"Thank you for the input, but just using a V6 search engine is not enough to surf the V6 web. I know it's hard to consider, but V6 is much more complicated to setup then your typical NAT. Implementing NAT inside of NAT is also not vary difficult…"

"Bill, That's a good point. When I first started attempting to use IPv6 I had a bastard of a time getting applications to do AAAA record lookups. It turned out I needed to add "options inet6" to my resolv.conf. However even after this…"

Mike Mestnik commented on gogo6's group 'v6 in America'
"After looking a 'trick or treat' and trt(like faithd) I have a few questions. 1. Are there any publicaly avalible deployments? ALA IPv4 broker. Should be possible to setup faithd with a ?GLOBAL? suffix. 2. faithd suggests it's TCP…"

"I just discovered totd, DNS proxy and translator for IPv6 and IPv4. This should replace A records with AAAA records, can I ask how to do this again for the 100th time?"
