Thorsten Behrens replied to Christopher Mettin's discussion 'DNS lookups over IPv6'
"Excellent. What you just learned in this exercise will you help you out a great deal when it comes time to move a production network onto IPv6: The real challenge isn't the "plumbing" (networking). The real challenge lies in…"

Thorsten Behrens replied to Christopher Mettin's discussion 'DNS lookups over IPv6'
"I'd start, again, at the "almost silly" end of the spectrum. Apache needs to be compiled with IPv6 support. XAMPP supports IPv6 now, which means it's a simple way to test that your basic networking is okay. Once you have that…"

Thorsten Behrens replied to Christopher Mettin's discussion 'DNS lookups over IPv6'
"I can ping your server, that's about the extent of it. Silly question - have you tried local lookups against it via IPv6? Just to check that it bound itself to v6 correctly. Which version of Windows Server is this? Or are you running a bind on…"

Thorsten Behrens commented on Eric Vyncke's group 'v6 Security'
"The built-in firewall in Win7 handles ipv6 without issue. On a network level, the Juniper SSG series works well today, and the SRX series will gain v6 firewalling with the mid-May release."

Thorsten Behrens commented on Eric Vyncke's group 'v6 Security'
"IPSEC encryption is optional. You can experience this yourself today: Set up ipv6 at home, use a DNS server that is "Google-sanctioned", and experience google and youtube via ipv6. The experience, by the way, is the same as over ipv4, no…"

Summary - why you are here, your IPv6 experience, what you are working on, ...
I've been running ipv6 at home, via a HE 6-in-4 tunnel, since January 2008. I blog about ipv6 for home users at http://yorickdowne.wordpress.com/. Musings about corporate ipv6 are starting to appear there now, too.

It's good to see the surge in private v6 use in 2009, followed by a marked uptick in higher ed activity in 2010. It's in all the RFPs now, though there are still "no concrete plans" when you dig deeper.
